The Graduates' Club:
Campus

Whether it leads to further study or a year out, a trip around the world or a career back home: Graduation is the start of something wonderful. Surprises are par for the course, and no one said that joining the adult world would ever be easy. But we believe a good watch can help a little. NOMOS Campus, the timepiece for graduates and for life, is made for this momentous occasion and as a reliable accompaniment for everything that happens next—an investment in the future. Here we present this new watch series from Glashütte: three Campus timepieces, and three young people who already wear them.

“The human body
is the perfect system”

Antonia, 18, knew from an early age: It was her calling to become a doctor. Now she is in the preparatory semester for a medical degree.

Antonia, the stress of your high school exams is just behind you, and you’re already studying again — now medicine. Is it a lot to take in?

It is a little, yes. But if I really care about something, I remember it well. It worked just like that for me in school too. I don’t forget things easily, especially if I am able to write while I listen to whatever is being said — such as during a lecture.

Do you ever get nervous before school exams?

No, not really. I find that I am able to study at my best when the pressure’s on. Sometimes I start studying a little too late — that’s something I should improve on. But, being a doctor means constantly working in stressful situations, so in that respect: Maybe it’s not such a bad thing if I start getting used to it now.

When did you decide that medicine was the right career for you?

I’ve never wanted to be anything other than a doctor. To do something meaningful, that helps people too. I’ve always been fascinated by the human body: It’s such a perfect system, in which all the parts coordinate in harmony — just like a high-end watch caliber.

A certain je ne sais quoi: Roman and Latin numerals and indexes alternate, as these watches speak more than one language.

  • Superluminova
When day turns to night, the hands, numerals, and indexes continue to tell the time, thanks to superluminova. In a brilliant blue!

  • Decentralized seconds
Typically NOMOS: decentralized seconds. It’s what makes the dial so refined—and the watch so slender.

  • Strap
It looks good, and feels good on: the Campus watchstrap made of velour calf leather, available in gray and anthracite.

  • Engraving
Complimentary: an engraving on the back of the watch. A personal message that means a great deal: on every trip, every adventure, for every milestone.

  • Movement
Within each timepiece of the Campus series ticks Alpha, the very first NOMOS caliber—it turns every watch into a handmade technical wonder, ready for any occasion.

“I want to
shape the world”

Aaron, 24, is in his first semester of studies. He dreams of transforming cities into better places for living — and of becoming an architect that pushes progress forward.

Aaron, after school you worked as an installation artist and then as a metalworker — now you are studying to become an architect. Why?

That’s simple: I want to shape the world — what’s all around us. I also want to do something sensible, as people so often say. Architecture impacts life everywhere. More and more people live in cities, therefore our lives are becoming more increasingly determined by humans — and what they build — than by nature.

What are you hoping to achieve as an architect?

I really want to create spaces in which people feel comfortable. I find that German cities are not that progressive. Why are there so many rectangular structures? Why not try building curved houses or ones with offset floors?

With your studies you are at the beginning of a new phase in life. How does it feel?

Intense! Initially I wanted to take some time for myself: to live freely with no commitments. I took time to allow myself to dream a little, and at one point or another I came to the decision that I want to study — and then I got going right away.

“Into the world,
across the Alps”

Now that he is finally finished with high school, it‘s time for the next adventure: Sim, 19, wants to cross Europe by bike and, of course, come back a new man.

Sim, soon you will embark on a bike tour through Europe. What are you hoping for?

I grew up in Kreuzberg, Berlin, and have spent my entire life in this city. Now I want to get away and see di erent parts of the world. Something new every day!

Do you think the trip will change you in any way?

Well, hopefully. While I was at school I was quite shy. I can’t carry on that way: I think I can learn a lot from all the new people I will meet. I’ll have to! About myself as well.

Is there anything you are worried about? Language barriers, for example?

With English you can get by anywhere. And in an emergency I have translation apps on my phone. It’ll be tough — but: nothing ventured, nothing gained.

What’s your first destination?

Across the Alps. My parents aren’t particularly impressed by the idea — they think it’s too risky. But my grandfather made the same trip when he was young. I’m following in his cycle path, so to speak. I can’t wait to reach the peaks, and then ride downhill from there on. Continuing south, until I reach the sea.

Classic at heart:
the in-house caliber Alpha

α (Alpha)—in-house built caliber with manual winding

Traditional watchmaking skill, the finest handcraft, and latest technology: in-house built caliber Alpha is the classic from NOMOS Glashütte. Our very first movement sets the pace within the Campus watches, is highly precise—and beautiful.

More about the NOMOS Caliber Alpha >

Five good reasons for
NOMOS Campus

Each one of the Campus models is a fine NOMOS timepiece from our Glashütte workshops — with a ‘student discount’ for those who are now starting their adult lives. With this watch series, we are subsidizing the entry into the world of handcrafted mechanical timepieces. And it’s worth knowing that the value of a NOMOS watch increases as the years pass. That makes Campus a decision for both the heart and head; the start of a lifelong passion, and an investment in the future.

The typical denotations of quality from NOMOS Glashütte can be found in the watches of the Campus series as well — fine craftsmanship, traditional watchmaking techniques, cutting-edge technology, and only the finest materials. Sounds delicate? Not at all: The stainless steel case and the indestructible sapphire crystal glass (only a diamond is harder) ensure maximum longevity.

All three Campus models express NOMOS’ unmistakable aesthetic ideals: industrial design in the traditions of Bauhaus and the Deutscher Werkbund — reduced to the essentials, timelessly beautiful, reserved. It is only at second glance that the difference on the dial becomes apparent. Roman and Arabic numerals combine with indexes to create an unusual harmony, suggesting that these watches speak many languages and would feel at home anywhere. By the way, watches from NOMOS Glashütte have received almost 140 design prizes. They promise long-lasting beauty in this regard as well.

Campus encapsulates a feeling at a particular moment in life: a joie de vivre and the ambition to make something of it — to be successful, happy, or ideally both. These watches are suitable for the lecture hall, the club, and for wearing with a suit to a job interview. When on the wrist, the wearer appears a touch more mature; although it is up to them to decide what exactly that means.

If you gift a Campus timepiece, you can accompany your sons, grandchildren, nieces through life. Even when they stop being quite so young, they will continue to be reminded of you — thanks to the complimentary engraving, which NOMOS Glashütte is offering on all three models of the series. It is a small personal message on the back of the watch that has large significance; on every trip, every adventure, with every future success you can be with them, on their wrists, for a lifetime.

Social Media Plug-ins
We use a variety of social media plug-ins on some of our web pages via Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest buttons. However, integration of these plug-ins does not necessarily ensure that your data are being transmitted to the respective provider. Instead, your prior consent for this is required, which you can give before you activate the individual buttons. To do this, click on the desired button.

Facebook
The "Like" button plug-in from Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (Facebook) can be used to tell your friends whether you like our Internet offerings, point to content, or share content. This plug-in is identified by the Facebook logo or the suffix "Like". The plug-in can transfer personal data to Facebook if you are logged in to it. However, you must first have activated the "Like" button. Once you do so, your data from visiting our site will be transferred to Facebook just as if you were visiting its own Internet pages, and in some cases even if you are not a registered Facebook user and do not click on the plug-in on our pages. In this case, however, Facebook is not directly able to make a direct personal connection to you, for instance by using the IP address; this would be possible only using information from your Internet service provider. If you are registered with Facebook, Facebook's own privacy protection provisions also apply, which can be found at http://de-de.facebook.com/privacy/explanation.php. The exact purpose for which the transferred data is used can also be found in these privacy protection provisions.

Twitter
The plug-in from "Twitter," a microblogging service from the American company Twitter, Inc. (795 Folsom St., Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94107), is likewise used by your browser to establish a direct connection with the Twitter servers, from where the button is loaded. This transfers the information to Twitter that you have accessed the given website. Even if you are not logged in, Twitter may be able to collect and store usage data. To do this, you must have activated the Twitter button and clicked on one of our web pages. Once you have done so, you can transfer twittered information to Twitter via the Twitter window that opens. This information is then published in your Twitter user profile. Additional information on data collection, evaluation, and processing of your data by Twitter, and your associated rights can be found in Twitter's privacy statement, available at http://twitter.com/privacy.

Google +
Many of the pages of our website include a Google+ button for the "Google+" social network. This social network is operated by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. The Google+ button can be recognized by the symbol “+1″. If you have activated the Google+ button and visit our website and open one of our web pages during your visit that contains a Google+ button, your browser will establish a direct connection with the Google servers and the button will be loaded from there. This will transmit the information to Google Inc. that the corresponding page on our website has been accessed. The content of the “+1″ button is transmitted directly from Google to your browser and integrated into the web page by it. We therefore have no influence on the scope of the data that Google collects with the button. According to Google, no personal data will be collected unless the button is clicked. Members of the Google+ social network must be logged in for data, including IP address, to be collected and processed. If you are a Google+ member and do not wish Google to collect data about you concerning our Internet presence, you must log out of Google+ prior to visiting our Internet site. Information concerning what data Google specifically collects for its own purposes and information about the processing and use of your data can be found in Google's privacy statement at http://www.google.com/intl/de/+/policy/+1button.html.

Pinterest
We also use the plug-in from the Pinterest social network, which is operated by Pinterest Inc., 635 High Street, Palo Alto, CA, 94301, USA ("Pinterest"). The Pinterest button can be identified by the symbol “P″. If you have activated the Pinterest button and access a page on our website that contains their plug-in, your browser will establish a direct connection to the Pinterest servers. The content of the plug-in is transmitted directly from Pinterest to your browser and integrated into the page. This integration tells Pinterest that your browser has accessed the corresponding page on our site, even if you do not have a Pinterest profile or are not currently logged into Pinterest. This information (including your IP address) is transmitted directly by your browser to a Pinterest server in the USA and stored there. If you are logged into Pinterest, Pinterest can directly assign the visit to our website to your Pinterest profile. If you interact with the plug-in, e.g., by pressing the "Pin it" button, the corresponding information will also be transmitted directly to a Pinterest server and stored there. The information will also be published on Pinterest and shown to your contacts there. The purpose and scope of the data collection and further processing and use of data by Pinterest and your associated rights and setting options to protect your personal privacy can be found in the Pinterest privacy protection statement: http://de.about.pinterest.com/privacy.

XING
Lastly, we use the plug-in from the "XING" social network of XING AG, Dammtorstraße 29-32, 20354 Hamburg, Germany, which can be identified by the "X" button. If you have activated the XING button, you have the option of sharing the content of our Internet pages with your contacts who are associated with your XING account. XING does not store any personal data about you concerning your access to this Internet site. Specifically, XING does not store any IP addresses. Nor is any analysis done of your usage behavior with respect to the use of cookies in connection with the "XING Share button." The current data protection information with respect to the "XING Share button" and additional related information can be found at: https://www.xing.com/app/share?op=data_protection.
